We will meet all participants arriving at Kilimanjaro Airport
(airport code: JRO). Those arriving at Dar es Salaam
should make a reservation for an onward flight to Kilimanjaro Airport.
Air Tanzania has daily connections between Dar and Kilimanjaro.
For those requiring an overnight stop in Dar es Salaam, ADEA will
facilitate hotel accommodation in Dar es Salaam, at the New Africa Hotel
(phone: +255 22 2117050/1; fax: +255 22 2116731) at a negotiated rate
of US$100. We will not be able to provide this service for those arriving
in Nairobi. Davanu Bus Service operates daily shuttles between Nairobi
and Arusha. The trip takes 4 hours at a cost of US$20/each way. Davanu
can be reached at davanutz@habari.co.tz
or by fax (+255 27 250 8503/ 8221).
We strongly recommend that participants obtain a visa before departure.
Residents of countries without a Tanzanian representation can obtain visa
on arrival, provided they inform the ADEA secretariat of the arrival date
and time well in advance. Holders of diplomatic and service passports
will receive their visas free of charge; ordinary passport holders may
have to pay. The fee structure depends on the traveler's nationality.
The participants will be booked in the following two hotels:
Novotel Mount Meru
P.O. Box 877
Arusha
Tel: +255 27 2502711 / 2
Fax: +255 27 2508503 / 2508221
Impala Hotel
P.O. Box 7302

Web site: http://www.impalahotel.com
The hotel rates, including bed and breakfast, are $85 at the Novotel
and $58 at the Impala Hotel. Seamless transportation will be provided
by ADEA between the two hotels and the AICC (Arusha International Conference
Centre) where the Biennale will take place.
Phone calls from the hotels are very expensive. Both hotels charge $20
for 3 minutes as a minimum charge for international calls. We strongly
recommend that participants with cell phones inquire about the possibility
of using their phones in Tanzania. This may be a cheaper option. In addition,
ADEA will provide free internet access at the two hotels starting on October
6 . At the AICC, there are also several Internet caf‚s that charge Tsh
500 (around $ 0.60) for 30 minutes.
The two hotels accept all major credit cards: Visa, MasterCard, American
Express. As for US dollars, we strongly recommend that you carry banknotes
from the new series, issued from1996 onwards as the older notes are not
accepted.
