The ADEA's Biennale on Education in Africa will be held on May 5-9, 2008 in Maputo, Mozambique, at the Joaquim Chissano International Conference Centre
Theme: Beyond Primary Education: Challenges of and Approaches to Expanding Learning Opportunities in Africa
ADEA's Biennale Meetings are the high point of the activities and life of the Association. The main objective of the meetings is to encourage and sustain frank and open discussions between African ministers of education, development agencies, and other education professionals. These discussions are vital for ADEA as they help to guide the Association's future actions, dialogue being one of the keys towards sowing the seeds for better understanding and progress.
The 2008 Biennale of Education will be held in Maputo, Mozambique, May 5-9, 2008. The venue will be the Joaquim Chissano International Conference Centre.
In light of the significant progress Africa has made toward achieving universal primary education, the 2008 Biennale will focus on post-primary education and training, one of the greatest challenges facing African education systems today. The 2008 Biennale will present to the African educational community the most recent tools, knowledge and practices that are liable to bring continent-wide progress in post-primary education.
As with previous Biennale Meetings, the event will be attended by a large number of stakeholders involved in the development of education in Africa: African Ministers of Education and senior officials; senior representatives from bilateral and multilateral cooperation and development agencies; regional and sub-regional organizations; non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and civil society organizations (CSOs); and education researchers and professionals.
About 500 people are expected to attend the meeting. The Biennale is organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Culture of Mozambique and the Government of Mozambique, which has graciously offered to host the Biennale of Education in Maputo.
